Getting Ready for a New Build

Garfield Lot

Gateway Habitat for Humanity is currently working on our 11th home which is located at 1650 North Garfield. The foundation work is in progress and we are planning to start framing work in the Spring. Attached photos show some of the work we are doing on the new home. The pictures were taken of the foundation work at the end of 2013. During this work shift, there were over forty ISU nursing students who volunteered to come work in the seven degree temperatures. The event was coordinated by ISU Nursing Student, Kadie Schultz and the Habitat Team Leader was Con Jensen, Spring Creek Construction.

Gateway HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

The Habitat for Humanity International web site contains more information on Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.

You'll find information about what is going on with other Habitat chapters in Idaho at the Habitat for Humanity Idaho web site.
