Getting Ready for a New Build
We are ramping up for our next build! The City of Pocatello has donated a
lot at 1646 N. Garfield, pictured here, that will eventually have two new
Habitat homes on it. The first project should be underway by July.
Architectural plans for a new home for Alyssa and Wilfredo Ortiz are in the
works. A second home should start in the Spring of 2012. We appreciate all
volunteers and donations, so please contact us if you would like to take
part in our next project.
Gateway Habitat benefited from the recent Extreme Makeover - see photos on the NEWS page.
See photos of the Twin Home Dedication for the Shepherd and Rios
families at 415 and 417 Jefferson Avenue on the
NEWS page. Our thanks to the many
volunteers and donors that made this house construction happen
in less than 9 months!
Gateway HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
The Habitat for Humanity International web site contains more information on Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.
You'll find information about what is going on with other Habitat chapters in Idaho at the Habitat for Humanity Idaho web site.
